From my personal experience as a Senior Lightning Artist on the film "KLAUS", we will try to understand the importance and transcendence of light in visual arts, especially in cinema and animation. We will delve into its features and workings, as well as into the simplest mechanics of schematization and synthesis. We will grasp why light is one of the most powerful tools which we have as creative minds to tell a story. This will allow us to take a close look at light’s conception in KLAUS and at its use throughout the film, reviewing the creative process and practically analysing some specific shots.

Directors Amy Winfrey and Peter Merryman will talk about their experience on the production of Netflix’s “BoJack Horseman”. Following a screening of “Free Churro”, they will describe the process of creating an episode, from the first visualization of a script to creating the storyboards, designs, and final animation. Using clips and images from the production, they will discuss how every episode has a similar process, but always presents new challenges and opportunities to the crew.
