Selection of short films in competition that brings together works belonging to directors associated with MIA (Women in the Animation Industry), and the winners of the latest edition of the Austrian festival TRICKY WOMEN/TRICKY REALITIES, a pioneering event dedicated exclusively to animated films made by women.
Both institutions are the winners of the ANIMAKOM AWARD 2023 as a tribute for their promotion of animated films made by women.
MIA is an open and multidisciplinary association, founded in March 2018, that has more than 240 members, mostly women in the Ibero-American animation industry. MIA has been conceived as a meeting point, debate, reflection and dialogue between professionals, associations, media, companies, other social agents and public organizations.
Since 2001 TRICKY WOMEN/TRICKY REALITIES takes place every year in March around the date of the International Women’s Day. TRICKY WOMEN/TRICKY REALITIES focuses on animated films made by women and/or genderqueer artists and therefore fills a unique position within the international festival landscape.
Besides the competitions, the festival shows themed programs like “intergenerational trauma” and retrospectives to present an exciting overview of the animated cinematic art of female and/or genderqueer artists from around the world and Austrian filmmakers as well.
From gender equality to digitalization, from human rights to the working world to social, economic and ecological questions – for twentyfour years, TRICKY WOMEN/TRICKY REALITIES has been exploring social and political issues from a feminist and artistic perspective and offering new ways of highlighting social inequalities.
