Friday, June 25
From June 28th to July 4th, the Sala Bilborock will host the fifth edition of the Bilbao International Animation Community Festival, ANIMAKOM FEST, in daily sessions from 7pm.
With a programme of almost 120 international short films in four competitive sections (professional, student, Basque short films and animated video clips), ANIMAKOM FEST repeats the beginning of summer as the date of celebration, taking over from Caóstica, its sister festival, which ends on the 28th. The main event of the festival on Saturday 3 will be the presentation of the Animakom Award in recognition of their career to Olga Pärn and Priit Pärn, legends of animated film, who have influenced a whole generation of filmmakers with their work at the head of the animation department at the Estonian Academy of Arts in Tallinn. The day before, on Friday 2, there will be a retrospective of their entire filmography. In addition to the competition screenings, the programme will be completed with a master class: on Friday 2, the Biscayan storyboard artist Iker Maidagan will talk about his work on renowned international productions in an event to be held in the classrooms of the Basque Country Film School. And on Saturday 3 at midday in Room 1 of the Golem, he will present the latest work he has participated in, the Oscar-nominated feature film "Wolfwalkers", by the Irish studio Cartoon Saloon. The full programme can be consulted on the festival's website www.animakom.com. As usual at ANIMAKOM FEST, three days of screenings will be made up entirely of short films directed by women, with special sessions by Zinebi, the French distributor Miyu and the association MIA (Women in the Animation Industry). ANIMAKOM FEST is a festival organised by the Develop association in collaboration with the production companies Abrakam Estudio and Media Attack and sponsored by Bilboko Udala, the Basque Government, Laboral Kutxa, and the Basque Country Film School - ECPV.
