The sixth edition of ANIMAKOM FEST, the Bilbao International Animation Film Festival, a must for amateurs and professionals alike, is coming to Bilborock from the 12th to the 19th of December, bringing the year to a close with the best of 2022.
The programme, which consists of four competitive short film sections (international, students, Basque shorts and animated music videos), includes the screening on Friday 16th of the feature film “Black Is Beltza II: Ainhoa”, recently nominated for the Goya Awards, and whose director, the well-known Fermin Muguruza, will be present with a talk about the making of the film together with producer Jone Unanua and storyboard artist Kepa de Orbe. The other big star of this year’s festival will be British filmmaker Joanna Quinn, who will receive the Animakom Award as a tribute to her career. On Saturday 17th, a retrospective of her work will be shown, including her short film “Affairs of the Art”, which was nominated for an Oscar earlier this year. Joanna Quinn will also give a masterclass on her work at the DigiPen Institute as part of the festival’s educational activities, which will also include an animation workshop for children and various meetings between professionals from all over the world, including the participation of animation programmers from the sector’s most important festivals in a project mentoring workshop. Admission to all the activities is free and, for the first time, the programme can be enjoyed partially in Basque and Spanish, as well as being available online on Filmin during the week of the festival. ANIMAKOM FEST is a festival directed by the Bilbao-based director and screenwriter Pedro Rivero (“Psiconautas”, “The Platform”), and it is organised by Develop and Media Attack Association with the participation of Bilbao’s City Council, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, the SGAE Foundation, Laboral Kutxa and the Basque producers’ association EPE/APV. All the programme and information about the festival can be found on the website: animakom.com.
